How to Whitelist an Email in Apple Mail
(Mac / iPhone / iPad)
(updated for 2025)

Option 1: Add the Sender to Your Contacts (Simplest Method)

Apple Mail automatically prioritizes messages from people in your Contacts.

On Mac:
  1. 1. Open the Mail app.
  2. 2. Open a message from the sender you want to whitelist.
  3. 3. Hover over their name or email address in the "From" field.
  4. 4. Click the dropdown arrow → select Add to Contacts (or "Add to VIPs").
On iPhone/iPad (iOS):
  1. 1. Open the Mail app.
  2. 2. Open a message from the sender.
  3. 3. Tap the sender's name at the top of the email.
  4. 4. Tap Add to VIP or Add to Contacts.

Once added, Apple Mail will prioritize those emails and deliver them to Inbox, not Junk.

Option 2: Create a Whitelist Rule (macOS only)

This is ideal if you want Apple Mail to always route emails from certain addresses directly to the Inbox.

Steps (Mac):
  1. 1. Open Mail → top menu → MailSettings (or Preferences).
  2. 2. Go to Rules → click Add Rule.
  3. 3. Name it something like "Whitelist – Important Senders."
  4. 4. Under "If," choose:
FromEnds with (or use the full sender email )
  5. 5. Under "Perform the following actions," choose:
        Move MessageInbox
(Optional: Set Color → Green, so it's easy to see.)
  6. 6. Click OK, then Apply when asked.

From now on, emails from that domain or address will skip spam filtering and go directly to your Inbox.

Option 3: Mark as "Not Junk"

If something still lands in Junk:

  1. 1. Go to your Junk folder.
  2. 2. Select the email.
  3. 3. Click the "Not Junk" button in the Mail toolbar (or drag it to Inbox).

Apple Mail learns over time — future messages from that sender will stay in your Inbox.

Pro Tip: Combine Them

For best results, do both:

  • Add the sender to your Contacts or VIPs
  • Create a Rule for their domain

That's the Apple equivalent of "whitelisting."
